Rats are ideal pets for children. They love being handled and it is easy for children to care for them and to keep them clean. Here I must add that I recommend keeping female rats for pets, a male rat is smelly and he spends his time marking to make sure that any female who might pass will smell him. Pardon this remark all male rats, but that is a fact.
Life will be somewhat different for the rat, depending whether a girl or a boy adopted her.
This is life !? It is heaven.
Children experience life and death through the short life span of their pet rats. Two of the valuable lessons they might learn is, how to eat and live healthy and how to accept death as part of life.
