| The butterflies Catopsilia florella could hardly find space on
these flowers for a sip of nectar. After the first bout of good rains in Namibia these
butterflies appeared en-mass. These photos were taken early in the year 2006 after the first heavy rain in Namibia. Although Namibia had a better than average rain for the rest of the year 2006 the butterflies dwindled back to what seems like their normal number. Many types of butterflies, but mainly Catopsilia florella could be seen in gardens all over Windhoek. It seemed like the flowers were animated, flitting around all the time. They are not serious and working hard like bees, they seemed to appreciate life in a carefree way, air-dancing and sipping nectar. |

Catopsilia florella butterflies vary in colour from a very pale (nearly white) cream to bright yellow, with faint markings. |

There were other butterflies too. Like this tiny one left on the photo. Take a close look, only a part of the wings are visible. |

I do not have knowledge of butterflies but from what I find in my books the butterfly at the bottom must be Alaena boisduvali but if anybody could correct me, you are welcome, please contact me. |
