Samoa Gem's American Curl Cat females

Samoa Gems Cats:  Breeders of quality Siamese and American Curl kittens
The curl  ear of the American Curl cat is the main attraction of this cat breed.
These are the American Curl females we are breeding at the moment.  We have been breeding with two girls most of the time, and the plan is to bring in one or two more females and breed chocolate and solid brown.
Our special thank you to Mark and Lisa from Sarcenet cattery in Texas who donated Grand Champion Samoa Gems Sarcenet Enigma to start the breed in South Africa.  Josee from Curls Fantasy in Belgium exchanged  Grand International Champion Samoa Gem's Enigma of  El Donna Evita and our latest stud International Champion Curls Fantasy Jorian of Samoa Gems for two of our kittens to improve our linesThank you Josee!!

We bred mainly with this line but many moggies have been tried in-between and most were bred only once.  One very good characteristic was constant in all the kittens, no matter how bad the ears turned out, the kittens were always very friendly and loving.   Most people who saw one  of the American Curls at a friend did not care what the ears look like, they just want the temperament.  One very good example is on my blog
http://made-in-afrika.com/myblog/cat35.nauticalcat.htm.
I did not repeat that breeding but all the kittens were very sweet, loving and clever!
Meet our American Curl Girls
Klossie of Samoa Gem (daughter of Grand Champion Samoa Gems Sarcenet Enigma) ended up being the foundation of the line.  She bred some very pretty kittens with the Grand International Champion Kenzo imported from Curls Fantasy in Belgium.  The kittens' ears in the same litter were always an assortment  from straight to 3rd degree, with not two exactly alike. No obvious folds.

Are they pretty or not?  Girl left boy right.

Left:- Champion Hoolycat and below is her litter from Samoa Gem's International Champion Jorian of Curls Fantasy. Our latest stud import from Belgium.

She seems to breed all curl ear kittens.  The degree of the curl differ slightly, but so far no straight ears and no folds.

We will keep on trying to bring in strong new genes,  but it is a difficult task to bring in new genes where we do not have other lines to choose from in South Africa.  Breeding out to domestic cats usually result in loosing something else like ear size, the smooth slightly curving profile or body length, but it keeps the kittens'  immune system strong  -  So far our kittens are healthy and true to type. Sweet layback temperament.  (I did mention it before ...)

This girl was one of our first females, she bred the best ears and type.
Her daughter Klossie became the matriarch of our line
Nonnie is a lovely dainty domestic girl.  We chose her line to breed from after trying many domestic queens. She had excellent type and although those large ears do not give good curl ears (most of the time) in the first generation, it ads size to the ears of  the next generation. We kept her girl Klossie who did  not have as good ears as we hoped for but the ears  improved with each generation.
