Aloes in their habitat with photos |
| Aloes in their habitat look quite different to the aloes in the garden, but that is to be expected as the same aloe can look different in the garden as well. The maculated aloes are a very good example. Their leaves stretch longer when they receive ample water and given some shade the leaves will fold open and lie nearly flat. |
| It is exciting to see aloes in their natural habitat. This is their niche. They have adjusted for thousands of years to fit into that habitat, but then a nagging thought also reminds me that they are vulnerable after all those years, their future is now in the hands of man. |

Aloe mitriformis in the garden. It is grown hard without water in our dry summer. Our rainfall is in the winter, which is the same as in the habitat of Aloe mitriformis. |
