Introducing a new baby to the resident cats

Introducing the new human baby to the cat members of the family is seldom a problem.  Start by allowing the cats into the babies nursery before the baby is born.  Cats never intrude on newborn kittens that belong to another female.   The cats will be very careful not to intrude on a newborn baby for a few days.   That should not be seen as jealousy, it is more like "good manners".   A new mother can be very protective of her new baby/kittens and they expect that from the humans too.

The cats do not live in packs like dogs so the new member will not attract their attention unless it is going to compete with their favorite sun spots and food.  Even if the baby are going to use the sun spot, the cats will instinctively know that the baby is no threat and cuddle next to it.  Felines have a way to make the best of warm soft spots. There is no recorded case of a cat smothering a baby.  I do not find it logical,  as lying on top of the baby's body is much nicer than on the face of the child. - even if they do, that would not block air off completely.  Female cats are very quick to get up when their own babies wriggle under them.   The baby will not lie still and let the cat be, no matter how young the baby is.
Having said that - it is just to let you know not to panic.   Never take that chance on your baby's life   -  keep the cats away from the baby for the first few weeks.  That is, if you are not close enough to keep an eye on the baby.
I have heard from pregnant woman that the medical doctor suggested they get rid of the cat because of germs etc.
All I will say to this is -  keep the cat,  get  yourself another doctor !!

Introducing children to cats, dogs or pets

Toddlers under 2 years old seldom harm cats as they would not be able to catch the feline !
The problem is with children age 2 - 4.  The kids tend to want everything their way at that age and use force.
It is easier, to wait until the children are past this stage before they are introduced to pet animals.
or start them off with one of the patient large dog breeds.
It is to the benefit of a child to grow up with a pet.  Where space is a problem, try a rat.
This is not meant as a joke.  Rats are intelligent and tough.  Easy to keep clean, a task the child can do.

This is my personal opinion.
Do not let young children clean toilet boxes of cats or clean up dog's feces.
There are germs to which grown-ups have built immunity and the child's immune system may not be strong enough to protect the child.
The child's arms are short,  forcing the child to carry the toilet too near to his/her face and body.
