Replace the lawn with pebbles and stones in fascinating patterns save water and maintenance.  Build a rock garden in the shape of a wall to fit into small spaces or hide and old wall.  Aloes and other succulent plants grow easy in containers for a special focal point in the garden.
Seeds from aloe species and hybrids which bloom at different times enabling you  to grow aloes from seeds that will be in flower throughout the year.   Aloo seeds.   Aloes are succulent plants which need very little attention in the garden and give a nice show  whether in bloom or not.
 
 
Aloes are  widely used for their medicinal qualities.   A. ferox is known as the medicinal aloe.
Aloes are associated with health.  Other succulents like Cotyledon should not be taken or used in any way.
 
A ruin of an old farm house in the Western Cape, South Africa. This is the natural habitat of Aloe mitriformis which is growing well in the deserted garden.

It is important to remember that aloes are protected CITES plants. It is against the law to remove them from the wild in South Africa.
These plants may not be transported without a receipt from a nursery or a landowner who is in possession of a permit from Nature Conservation  to give/sell those aloe plants.
  
Terms used, explained very roughly.   rosette = the plant leaves;      inflorescens = whole flower stem;    raceme = top stem of the inflorescens with flowers ;
