Aloe  arborescens (South Africa)

Aloe arborescens forms a bush with flowers on large cone shaped racemes

Aloe arborescens grows from the Cape up to Malawi.  Thus from winter rain to tropical hot climates. This succulent plant is a very easy going aloe which can stand light frost,  but in a hot climate it needs some shade.
Aloe arborescens makes offshoots and branches forming dense shrub-like bushes.  Beautiful in flower.  The flowers of  A.arborescens differ from region to region and the plant tend to hybrid easily.  click for hybrids    Aloe arborescens is popular as a garden plant, therefor different flower colors have been developed, from red and dark orange to very pale yellow.
The leaves of the rosettes are recurving and the racemes are conical.
Aloes are succulent plants, also known as fatplants. It is easy to grow aloes as a houseplant or as a potplant in the garden or greenhouse.
