Aloe broomii (South Africa)
Aloe broomii is a short stemmed aloe with a dense rosette of dark green leaves from the Karoo. That is the summer rainfall area part of the Karoo which is a very arid habitat.  However the aloe adjusted easy in our winter rainfall area receiving no extra water in summer.
The sugar birds love the nectar in the very small densely packed flowers. This photo was taken in the Karoo habitat of Aloe broomii. Plant this aloe on stones and in full sun in high rainfall areas.
The habitat of this aloe has very cold winters, but the winters are dry.  Thus - Frost resistant if kept dry.

Aloe broomii planted on the stones. There is some shade late afternoon which will not hurt.  It is difficult to obtain or transport large stone.   In that case make some stones by building them.  Cover the bricks with newspaper and chicken wire to disguise the square effect and then cover all over with a good layer of cement.  It is more natural to add color to the cement than to paint the stone.  Dry horse dung mixed into the cement will encourage moss or other tiny plants to grow on the "rock".
