Aloe vanbalenii   (South Africa)

Aloe vanbalenii is very special in color.  The flowers are yellow and the  leaves of the rosette are a yellow-green with rusty red borders and shading.  There is a pink flowering form.
This stemless aloe plants divide into clumps.  The flowering time is mid winter which is not so good in very cold areas as the flower buds may freeze and die.
The long leaves make a graceful twist which gives the impression the rosettes are locked into a unit.
A relative large plant.  Without a stem it is not high, but more than 1 meter across.
The plant can withstand frost, but the flowers will die.
This is another aloe plant that adjusted easy to winter rain.

Left :-  The early summer photo.  As the sun heats up, the leaves are tinted more red.
Right:- The winter photo. One plant decided to keep the summer tint. Lovely "old gold"  flowers.

We keep the dam for  fish only.
