Bonsai tree styles were not designed by humans, nor is it restricted to natural bonsai trees.   The tree styles and variations with some extras are characteristic of  trees growing in nature. All tree branches would be near to straight if it was not for natural events like climate and animals.
As to the bonsai styles - I am not an expert.  Feel free to correct me or if you want to add some information contact me.

Here are a few photos  of  natural trees in Namibia.   The harsh climate and wild animals in Namibia shape magnificent trees.
These photos give only a rough idea of the enchanting tree styles in nature all over the earth.
