This photo gallery is to show  endemic succulent plants, mainly Cotyledons, Tylecodons and Kalanchoes with colorful flowers or interesting leaves, which have the same needs as the aloes in the water saving garden.
Here are a few more succulent plants with colorful flowers or interesting leaves.

There are many more succulent and caudiciform plants that are excellent companions in the aloe water saving garden. This garden is easy to care for.  Good drainage is essential; as is - humus, basic soil, and old manure.
Kalanchoe species are very hardy with colorful leaves in interesting shapes which make up for the small flowers.  The plants below left and right will turn green if grown in shade.

Tylecodons are very easy fat plants to grow and all the different species are ideal for the water saving garden.  The plants resemble small trees with very fat stems covered in yelowish flaking bark.  Tylecodon plants are poisonous, but the plant must be eaten, handling the plants will not cause harm unless the person has sensitive skin or alergic conditions.  In times of drought the plants are sometimes eaten by livestock causing severe cramps and often death

Photos above are two young Tylecodon(buttertree) species.  They differ mainly in the size of the leaves. Photo center is Tylecodon wallichii without leaves resting during summer which is the dry time in the winter rainfall area where it grows.

TheCotyledons are very hardy easy succulent plants that grow fast and bloom freely.  The flowers are popular with nectar loving birds but like the Tylecodon the Coteledon plants are poisonous too.   The plants are used as medicine, be very careful or better, do not use it.
The Cotyledon species plants differ a lot in the shape and color of the leaves.  The long lasting flowers are all roughly the same shape in the different Cotyledon species.
